I'm not gonna be one of those dudes who says they are quitting xanga but then return every few months. But I am about to have a baby in my house and my guess is that xanga and video games will be the first of my hobbies that are placed securely on the back burner.

The VMA's

If you want a quick glimpse into the current state of popular music in our culture...you need look no further than the VMA's.

The Racontuers did a cover with a twist..... "internet killed the video star".

OK GO "played" onstage at the VMAs by re-enacting their uber-popular myspace video. Ya know the one that got like a bajillion hits.

Panic! at the Disco is apparently already the most popular band in the world. I didn't know that.

Christina Aguilera is still way more talented than any of her competitors.

Axl Rose will always be welcome on award shows.

Famous people collaborate alot when they don't have new material.

"Planned mistakes" were littered all throughout the show.

These are just some of my thoughts. And what I learned...

The internet is establishing it's dominance as the primary channel for new bands, music sales, and promotion in ways that television and radio cannot compete with.

The 2000s may be remembered as the retro decade...as we seem to pull together sights and sounds from the past without anything that really defines the present.

Popular music is more about the presentation than the art itself. Which may have been true in the past, but not to this degree.

I don't think these things are good or bad...probably both.

Wudup?

I just went to Durty Nellie's to the Fair to Midland show. Now I don't know if you've watched these guys yet, but if you live in the Chitown area...it would be worth your six dollars sometime. Phil and Adam and the rest of the gang have gotten really good.

I played dodgeball today and I realized that I'm getting old - mainly because I'm really sore. All I did was throw a few balls at people...and dodge the ones thrown at me. I can barely stand up right now.

Ridiculous.

Here's a treat for you. You need to laugh at least once today!

I've been neglecting to participate in my cyber-community lately but not on purpose. I just haven't been home. But now that I"ve mowed the lawn, and picked up some groceries, and washed some laundry I may be able to make some room for more important things, like xanga. I have a few more things to do today: get my oil changed in the olds for one. Did I tell you that my parents gave us a '98 Oldsmobile? It's rad. Anyway, I"m gonna put in a real post later.

By the way, at Lollapalooza I hung out with the drummer from Nada Surf for a bit after their set. And I also met Matt Pinfield. Do you remember that guy? Bald dude who hosted headbanger's ball. Thanks to Ryan L. for the sweet pass, I'll never go to a festival again now that I've been spoiled.

What life is like for me right now...

Life is super busy for us right now. We go to the baby doctor like twice a week. Everything's good though. Did I tell you we're having a girl?

I'm putting the finishing touches on our new record. It is coming along well. Wes is designing the cover art and it looks real good. It should be ready by mid-september.

We're going to another camp this weekend...but beforeI go I think I'm gonna head downtown for some Lollapalooza action.

I've charted my plan of attack in this order:
